What are the diffrences in preformence and other factors between automatic and manual transmision. Which type of transmision should I get? What are your opinions on both of them?

You can drive any automatic easily with 1 foot and 1 hand. Sometimes i wish i had a manual, but also i eat alot while i drive so im happy i have an auto

Manual hands down. Way more fun to drive, usually get better gas mileage and offer a bit more hp over an auto.

I agree with Failed Devices! Manual, No questions asked, They're way funner and as he said, a little more power and a little better mpg's if you keep your foot out of it lol

depends on whats in the car. in order to change from one to the other you will need to change a crab load of stuff. wiring harness under hood and dash for one, ecm for another. the auto is faster in a race. more so if built. i dont understand how a manual can make a motor create more hp. an auto will not get as good of mpg but dont know about hp.

on an auto you lose power. you only get about 80% of the power plus you dont have the shift into nuetral with a manual

Automatic will eat up 4-8% more HP then then a stick. While the above 80% is about right a Manual is only about 85%. But an automatic will allow you the torque multiplyer to effectively "store" power (Yea I know its not really stored) . On low HP motors getting the car up to the better HP ranger of RPMs is half the battle. So a V6 with an automatic could out run a V6 with a stick in the quater mile. As the HP goes up the advangage is less. In just about all racing except drag racing manual rule the field.

For anyone that thinks and automatic does not steal some HP I would ask why does automatic need cooled? and since heat is never free where does the heat come from?

Manual trans are like convertibles. If you have to ask if you should get one its most likely not for you. Rowing a 4000lb car thru a stop/start traffic jam can be a real pain after a 12 hour day. There may come a day I will have to drive an automatic, but not today

thanks gorn. im real happy with the way the patc trans is working, i think the car would go sideways hitting third if it were manual but ive always been to hard on the sticks. love to powershift,,, kept breaking things so switched to the auto a long time ago.
