check your code in the glove box as you may already have 3.23's

you say you are "chipped". What year is your car? You might be better off with a mail order tune and some data logging

its a 96. its not a "chip" that you solder into the ecu. its one of those cheap potentiometer chips that you splice into a sensor. its cheap but it actually works. i feel a difference. and i heard if its 3.23 gears, i would have 1st gear as a choice, which i dont. only 2nd, drive, and od

3:73 gears
at least a 3200 stall converter from yank, 3000 from vigilante(they seem to stall a little higher)

check your glove box for the codes. you're looking for a "GU#). get that code and we can tell you what gears you have

You're feeling the fact that your wallet is slightly thinner. The "chip" that goes in line with the sensor generally makes the car run slightly rich for a few days until the PCM edits it's fuel tables and everything is back to normal. I was extremely surprised when I installed my Wideband O2 sensor and controller in my Subaru at how adaptive car computers are at keeping the mixture where it should be.

You don't need to utilize the "choices" you have for gears anyway. If everything is working as it should be, you should be able to put the car in OD and leave it. The car should shift as hard as it can at redline (the shift times can be decreased if you get your PCM reprogrammed). 3.23 gears won't change anything in your actual transmission, it's the final drive (differential), so you won't get any more choices anyway.

thats another thing, i was thinking about a good programmer. should i do that, or wait until i start doing internals to tune it?

I wouldn't invest in a "Programmer" you can get much better results out of a PCMforLess tune once you have some mods that actually necessitate a tune, such as new heads and cam.
