Default LS1 experts!

I am looking at a 2000 LS1 car with 45,000 miles on it in the morning. Any LS1 specific things I should look for. I know what to look for on the 3800 and the LT1's but I never worked on a LS1 car.

I would just look for anything you would look for with any car. leaks , I am sure you know the ls1 is supposed to be a better engine ,tranny slippage ,oil changes ,how many owners ,an the price ,when I got my 95 lt1 I just looked for all those things an it did not leak drop for the first 5 years ,it was only after I worked it over bye buring the tires an few over.revs that I started having problems ,does the AC still work ,.brakes ,tires ,I hear good things .about the ls1s ,give it some gas take a long ride I allways take used cars for long .rides letting it idle for 15 minutes at some point during the ride ,then check for leaks again ,.probley in good .shape given the miles ,but check it good

I am pretty good on the basics I was hoping for some inside LS1 things to look for, like the intake gasket on the 3800 right at the head/ block/ intake intersection or signs of overheating on the Lt1. I know the oil pump is a weak spot on these cars but no easy way to check that.

well like you said there hard to tell unless you bring them into a shop an have some one look at the car ,things to look for are the age of the seller as to weather it was taken care of I would think would be the biggest thing for now flash light ,actually .expert or not I have not hear anything bad about a camaro with 45.000 miles on it an ls1 too ,if the price is right ,how many owners can be bad or good depending, you can bring a pressure guage an test the .compression ,

surprised liberty hasn't chimed in here. like you i have only seen the oil pump as a common failure. other failures have been associated with abuse/racing.
