Default Any 74 Z28 Experts here?

I'm looking at a 1974 Z28 Camaro. The VIN has the correct "T" in the 5th position and everything looks like it's there except....

It does NOT have a tach in the dash.
The fuel gauge is located to the right of the speedo where I would expect the tach to be.

Was a tachometer an option in the Z28 that year?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, the tach was an option: Camaro Spotter Guide and Yearly Differences

You don't need no stinkin' tach with a SBC - when valves float - shift!

I didn't even know the engines of that era could breathe well enough to reach anywhere near redline. lol

74z Would have an HEI ignition. Most guys that try to clone forget that.

I think HEI was a mid-year production upgrade. This one has an aftermarket (Mallory) system in place of the original.

Looks like we're gonna get this one! Pretty excited

Well for anyone following this (you must lead a pretty quiet life) I did NOT buy the car.

It was all there and everything was pretty squared away with it including no rust, but.....
the guy that has it is weird and would only accept cash in person and not at a bank.

He wouldn't meet me at the bank to get a cashier's check or money order and would only take the cash, in his hand, at his place.

Oh.....and the Pink Slip was never put in his name and he's had if for 14 years.

I did check and it's been on a Non-Op so there is only about $79 due.

But with all the super sketchy stuff, I decided to let it go.

Last I checked, its still listed for sale at racingjunk.com if anyone wants to put up with how shady this dude is.

Thanks for the answer to my original question.

Saw your post and had to respond. I had a 74Z new, 4 speed with AC and pretty well optioned out, the tach was an option and was a low RPM for the L82 motor and mine did have an HEI. Considering the low performance of the mid 70's the L82 was a decent motor. As a brand new car it was a great looking and performing car, I seldom saw a 74 Z28 4speed with AC back then. It was my car during college and remember it being a great highway ride. Wouldn't mind having it back.

Just don't buy this one. The dude is a shady hillbilly. He has a bunch of pretty cool cars on his property. Looks like he really likes the 55-57 Chevys as he must have a dozen. I also saw several Chevelles (including an SS convertible) in various states of being assembled.

Sometimes if it smells bad, it is bad. I wouldn't buy a newspaper from this dude.
