Default ls1 burning oil, any common problems?

I have a 2001 z28 camaro with the LS1 Engine. It only has 55000 miles on it and its already burning oil. The low oil light comes on after about 1500 miles after an oil change. Has anyone had the same problem or possibly know the cause of this? Im hoping that im not the only one who has had this problem. Any help would be apreciated.

I've owned six LS engines. Two were stock, four were built (three professionally, one sort of home made). One professionally built one that was deliberately built very, very "loose," burned a quart every 800 miles of so. It had piston centered rods, extreme clearances for low friction, etc.

Under very hard acceleration, andwhen it was very hot, as after several close-together quarter mile runs, I could even smell oil in the exhaust, although I could not see any blue smoke. Still, it never came apart or gave any problems, but it sure worried everyone but the engine builder for the first 5000 miles (it never did let us down, and it won a lot of races).

But the other five used very little if any oil.

Is it possible that your oil sending unit is bad? Are you losing oil by physically checking it or are you just going by you're oil light?

it is not uncommon to hear of an LS1 to use a quart of oil over 3000 miles but a quart over 1500 is a little much.
