Common LT1 engine problems/tranny issues
I've run across some nice examples of LT1 'maros for good prices, I was originally going to get a 7th generation V6 Honda Accord coupe, but my budget was lowered by my parents, and luckily there are a few LT1 camaros in my price range. I just want to know of any major common engine/transmission problems with these cars(being that in my search for Accords its a well known fact that 6th and some early 7th gen Accord V6s pretty much were destined to fail whether you rode them hard or not). Also, any other major problems I need to know about, thanks in advance
edit: I see ltos of people talking about problems with the opti, is that expensive to deal with?

The opti unit itself will run you around $300-500 depending which model you choose. If your mechanically inclined its fairly easy to do yourself, I have no idea what a shop will charge. Head gasket failure is also pretty common in the LT1s.
If your leaning towards the manual 6 speed (T56) the transmission is built very well and will handle great amounts horse power. Many view it as one of the best trannies ever, the T56 used sells for around $1500. The automatic on the other hand isn't built to the same standards but I have no experiance with one so I won't speak of it.
The 10-bolt rear end is a weak link in the drive train and is prone to fail after one starts heavily modifying their engine.

The biggest thing to look out for is the opti, I believe a shop generally charges 6+ hours for labor, but like mentioned above, with a little know how it is not a complicated repair. The transmission mount is prone to failure, if you like to get on it, but it is a very easy and inexpensive repair. Other then that the LT1 Camaro is a fairly solid car and like any other car will last you a long time if you keep up the maintenance.
these are great cars and like any car there is maintainance. before buying have any prospects scanned. try to go for a 96 or newer if u can. ignitions are a little better.
