3) If that does not resolve your problem, one thought comes to mind is that you may have larger internal clearances (bearing clearances) or i.e plain old engine wear. You didn't state the millage. You can replace your oil pump with a high pressure (not high volume) and that would bring up the oil pressure.

he says that his pressure goes to zero.

right, how can bad bearings cause a 40 lb drop in pressure to 0 with heat only. i dont see how. i would suspect the pump pressure releaf valve or the filter pressure releaf valve. fitler, if cheap fram, could be gone to pieces. i have seen airation cause a loss in pressure. engine had pressue till oil got airated then dropped to almost 0. leak in oil pickup or oil pump lose or low oil could cause airation. in my case it was low on oil. i could see the oil did not look right, kinda like water was in there but not.

everything is speculative. It's day 4 and the only thing we know for sure is..............

we don't know the actual oil pressure.

The ball is in the court of the OP and it's up to him to get a gauge put on it or do it himself

So I took the advice of torque and others but when i checked it, it had stopped happening. At first I thought the gauge must be reading incorrectly, but it read the same as the gauge. My oil pressure really was dropping, but has stopped, im even more stumped then before.

This is another reason why I like mechanical gauges for true engine monitoring, and not inaccurate, unreliable, hit-or-miss electrical ones. Of course, the gauge and related still isn't the real issue here.

could be the oil pressure sensor decided to start working, not likely being you are hearing clatter when gage shows no pressure. i would still suspect failing relief valve in the oil filter or relief valve in oil pump. probly be a good idea to change oil and filter and look for metal on the pan plug magnet and cut open the filter and check pleats in it for same.

Alright guys, I know this is old but I have some updates. As stated before, the problem stopped happening. Until, that is, a day or so ago when I went to an empty parking lot and acted a fool doing donuts and drifting about. Oil pressure dropped quickly and has been doing it ever since. The dipstick is covered in oil, so I know there's pressure, and there is still clattering at zero lbs. haven't changed the oil yet, that's for tomorrow. Any new ideas or suggestions? This is seriously becoming a pain in my *** as I need my car to do everything. Also, it's a high mileage vehicle.

No, as I said it just stopped happening so I just slowly forgot about it.
