Default Low oil pressure..

'Sup guys, a couple days ago i started having this problem. Ok, so as soon as i start my car, the oil pressure goes to normal. But, as i drive it around, it slowly starts to go down, until it hits zero and the check gauges icon appears. Obviously im not gonna drive it around like that, but i wanna know what could be the problem or if its just the historically inaccurate or malfunctioning gauges, Because already my engine temp and gas gauge hardly work. Any advice would be appreciated.

never assume it's only a gauge or sender until you verify

naturally you checked the oil level; correct?

Engine Oil Pressure Test Kit

I don't know the year of your car but the sensor is either near the egr or down by the filter

oh wait, is it a sixer??? I dunno where to connect on them

At what RPM does it read "0"? After I had my heads and cam done this spring, the shop put 5w30 in it, going by the oil cap (which I didn't realize they used 5w30). The first blazing hot day the OP gauge drops to about 5# with a warm engine in drive at a red light, and the check gauges light on. I always ran 10w30 Castrol GTX in it previously, and had 10# at hot idle in gear. Get it checked by a real gauge! Agreed, if it really was zero, you would have some noise going on.

I do. The lifters do rattle. And it gradually goes down, but once it reaches zero it stays at zero no matter what the tach says.

if the lifters are clattering then you are at a low or no oil pressure. should try and confirm what pressure is. what kind of oil filter, frams cheap filter will effect oil pressure if it goes to pieces. may have to go with a heavier weight oil or new high volume oil pump.

alright. do you know what could cause the variation with oil pressure? Because the pressure comes in and out, sometimes its high and sometimes it low.

If you are hearing valve clatter def seems you'r oil pressure is going to low. would def check what it is with a mechanical gauge.
From what your describing sounds like the oil pump could be going out.
