Default Lost my keys :(

The title says it all. I know the stealership will charge up the *** for a new key and fob, what is my cheapest solution?

Since I have no spares, I can't order a key off ebay and get it cut. I could always get the fcc id from GM and get a fob from e-bay for $50 and program it myself, but most of them are used and in poor looking condition.

Is there a way to disable the vats system so I can just use a key for the time being?

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd vote for the e-bay way.
As for whatever you decide to do. I just wanted to give you a heads up about the kind of luck we Camaro owners have with keys. As soon as you get new keys made, you'll find the old set.....

Called gm, they want $60 just for the key plus labour to go through 13 different keys to see which one fits. So just the key could.cost me a couple hundred possibly. Such b.s. Always keep a seond copy is my lesson learned.

you can have the vats tuned out at a place like pcmforless or better yet lt1pcmtuning
i thought the dealer could look up the key ohm value using your vin number.

Back then I think it had to be the dealer that sold the car was one that had the info. I remember testing car at the dealer to find out which resistor it came with. I am not sure how long they would store the info.

The resistor ignition key in Central Indiana is $29.95 + tax (including cut) at the local dealership(s). You are looking at 1 hr shop time ($60 - $75/hr) to figure out which resistance value key you need. There are 15 different values. The key pattern can be looked up by VIN. Hope you wrote down the number of the resistor somewhere.

As far as the remote fob, Amazon.com, you will get hit for about $40.00 each.

There is a way to bypass the VATS, use the search function...

So I found my set of keys on the side of the road by the landfill, looks like a grader hit them pretty good because each key was cut in half, chewed up and scattered all over the side of the road. The only key that was in 1 piece was of course my camaro key. After bending it back in shape with a wrench i was able to start the car. I can now drive it although it sets off the alarm after opening the doors as I do not have the original door keys (just use the fob).

After 30 minutes of searching I found the back side of the fob with the FCCID number on it, so I went on e-bay and purchased a new fob for $40 including shipping.
I guess luck was on my side, although I will have to replace other fobs and such, but all I cared about was my car as it was parked in a handicap spot... lol

I am back on track, and will be purchasing a new ignition and door keys off ebay as backup. I was able to get the ohms from the dealer and than I just need to get it cut at home depot and I wont have to worry about this happenging again.

For now I disabled the horn so I can get inside the car without it sounding until I can get the key in the ignition to stop it.

Thanks for the replys everyone!
