Longtubes would be the best use of your money. Your stock manifolds are just good as anything else. Not sure if you have to lift the engine, but i wouldnt doubt it. Im sure its been done without lifting it though.

your stock manifolds are worth crap vs. any header. depending on your state's emissions, long tubes are definitely the best choice, more so for the low end torque over mids or shorties. and yes, 20-25 rwhp is accurate for longtubes

You don't need to lift the engine, but it makes it a hell of a lot easier.

One thing to remember, is that if you can sacrifice the time and pain to get those longtubes in now, you'll have better access to those spark plugs for the rest of the time you own the car. That's true for mids/shorties also, but the gains you see performance-wise from longtubes make the aches worth it.

If you're experienced with cars and have a friend to do it you should be able to get it done in a weekend. Of course, this is providing you can get the old system out without any headaches. When I did my header install that took up 1/2 of my time because I twisted off half of the bolts in the Y-pipe. You'll need a good penetrating oil and a buddy will be a big help (probably one with small hands if you're a big guy) to get into those tight places. Also remember to get some O2 extensions if you're not soldering savvy and you can't make your own.
