Default Lifters and Camshaft

Hey guys just a quick question I am having my lifters replaced because one is tapping because its clogged. My dad was talking to me and said that when you do that you have to replace the camshaft because something about the new lifters not working well with an old camshaft and it would breakt the camshaft. This experence was from an old 70's vette that he rebuilt years ago is this still true for a 2002 V6 camaro?

your dad is right, chances are 35% it will fail.that said if you only have to replace 1 or2 if its a intake lifter put the new one on an exhaust and exhaust on your intake, much better chances.i doubt your lifter is plugged,it would clak real loud if it wasent working.you can get a tick from rocker any part of valve train, lots of 350s tick,if its only ticking leave it.or change cam and lifters,or if a lot of kms on motor rebuild, but dont change just lifters

It is tapping pretty loud when it warms up not so much at idol. I had a show replace the upper and lower intakes and after it came back from the shop it was tapping. The shop agreed to pay for half the repair if we took it to a 3 party shop. This 3rd party shop says it's a clogged lifter but they have not gone into the engine. And the engine only has 69000 miles on it

You didn't say what engine you have. But if you have flat tappet lifters, then yes you have to replace lifters and cam as a set, as that's how they wear. If you have roller lifters however, then no you don't have to. Roller lifters don't create a matching wear pattern on themselves and the cam lobe, so you don't have to replace a cam any more than you would need to replace your roads after you put new tires on the car.

THe lifters are roller, so you can just replace the lifters as needed.
