Just want to make sure I am asking my mech everything....
I have scoured the boards and think I am ready to visit my mechanic with my problem but want to make sure you guys and gals don't have anything to add.
When I am sitting still (no matter what gear) there is a steady tone that comes from the rear of my car. For those of you who have served your country or who have heard "Taps" played it sound exactly like the final note emitted before the instrument is lowered. This sound goes away when I step on the gas.
I plan to ask my mechanic to check my pinion seal, ring and the fluid. My question to each of you is: Would you ask any other questions or point your mechanic in any other direction?
Thanks much and have a totally kewl day!
P.S. Thanks to everyone for the help with the wheels. They are on order...

Well...based on your description, it wouldn't be: gears, bearings, axles, u-joints, brakes, shocks, or seals. Because, when the car is "sitting still", NONE of those things are moving. Are you sure it's not your fuel pump you hear singing? Or maybe a vibration/rattle in your exhaust system?
Thanks so very much for all of the replies. I am relatively positive that it isn't a vibration/rattle in the exhaust but I hadn't thought about the fuel pump singing so that is interesting. The differential/rear end is what I was leaning towards as well, but I will have him check everything that you all have listed.
Once again the members of this forum have come to my rescue and provided me with solid information so I have reasonable expectations when visiting my mech. Thanks again.
