Infamous L67 Engine Swap In 1997 Camaro
#11
OK OK, now back to the L67. So wtf is there anything we can do easily to these 3.8 Camaros? It seems no matter what question is asked, everything is difficult as hell and not worth it. I would love to have my old engine in this thing. Would the labor be less intensive here than a turbo kit? Also, DID ANYONE EVER CHECK OUT THE STS REMOTE MOUNTED TURBO I've been asking about? Easy Yahoo or Google search should bring it up right away. I want to know what everyone thinks and if they were in my position, what they would do, besides just trade it in. I would just like somewhere from 275 hp+ and throw some torque on that. I would also like something thats going to give me the least amount of trouble in the future as possible. I was happy with my stock Grand Prix GTP. I'm only looking for a little more than that..I don't need 350 hp, but if it stays within my budget, I obviously wouldn't mind.

Read musicmans project post. He is pushing 300 HP. These car are designed for very specific motors. Or I should say the motors where designed for a very specific car. Everything is cramed in. This does not make for easy mods. Add in the fact that the computer systems are al linked together and are motor specific and now you are fighting a two front war. The remote mount Turbo has been brought up a few times but it seems for some reason people do not want to spend 3K on a v6 so it can run almost as fast as a V8 car they could have bought for $2500. I am really not sure why. Joking aside putting a turbo on a stock motor is almost aways a mistake. The motors need to be gone through, pistons, rings, rod and main bolts need upgraded. Adding that work to the price of the turbo and your going to have 5K in your V6. Thats great if your ok with being almost as fast as a v8 for twice the price. It will all come back to what you want, even the guys that build the V6's will tell you if your goal is to go fast get a V8. If your goal is to build the fastest V6 get out your wallet and lets go.

murda,
really the easy things to do are what many have done here with the 3.8
PCM tuned, plugs, wires, intake, and exhaust.
doing those things will make a noticeable difference from stock.
after that, you are getting into bigger money and there comes a point where you have to decide if it is worth it or not.

Well the L67 has arrived. I'll be picking it up in the next day or so. I'm in the process of removing the old L36 with the cracked head. I included a picture of the throttle body... Drenched in coolant. The air box was also full of coolant.
I have also finished removing the front clip. And I'm now ready to begin installing the new (98-02) front clip. When ever the parts get here.

Dont forget to take the honeycomb off, the catfish nose uses a piece of styrofoam that is form fitted to the bumper cover. The face bar is still the same so you are good to go there. Also note that the styrpfoam is held in with 5 plastic push pin thingys. 2 are a breeze to get out 3 are a pain and require long nose pliers
