Humming sound in rear..

Did you replace ALL the diff bearings?
I have the same problem and have already replaced the rear wheel bearings and diff fluid. I also replaced the rear drive shaft (carrier bearing) and that didn't fix it. hopefully it's not the gears.... that doesn't sound like any more fun than the 8 hours of work I have into fixing the problem.

It was fairly constant as I recall, and only when driving. Same issue on my SS, so both cars had all their diff bearings replaced, and the sounds was gone post replacement...

My 86 Astro (with almost 150k miles) had a leaking pinion seal and a noisy rear end. I took it to a driveline specialist shop (manual transmissions, driveshafts, rear ends) to see how much it would cost to have it fixed.
I was not amused.
They would only give it the full works, that being disassembly, new pinion bearings, new carrier bearings, new seal, and - of course - setting up the contact pattern. This was going to cost upwards of $700 and the price would go up substantially if I needed a new ring and pinion.
I hit the local U-Pull-It and bought a used rear out of a wrecked 87 Astro having the same ratio and paid $40 for it. Sometimes you lose, but sometimes you win!
