This is whats under my hood, Iz likes da shinny
Yes, turbo always leads to better HP gains, but forced induction costs a pretty penny, the O/P may not have that budget. Plus, FI is best with a little something extra, sure, you can slap a turbo on a stock engine but IMO it's better to start with basic mods, w/ internals, and then look at turbo or superchargers
I get what you mean about a V8, but I own a 1978 Corvette which I am restoring this winter and I also own a Dodge Ram 1500.

As far as headers for the 3.8 OBX makes a great set of stainless shortys which I planned on ordering today. I dont much care about the z28 or the V8 LS1 mostly because the 3800 is a great motor. I just want to get as much as I can out of it. I could have a turbo kit on the car for about $3500 and that little 3800 would take out the V8 and no one would see it coming. I got offered a z28 just yesterday for a Tahoe that I own and am selling but I turned it down. I like the LS1 but if I was going to put a V8 in the car I would have a motor built for it. What ticks me off about the 3800 is not the engine it was Chevy's inability for factory options like the LS1 has but I love the motor itself. For a V6 it is super peppy and at 3500rpms has a nice little kick. The take off is a little slow but I plan on fixing that with the change of the oxygen sensor, shift kit, headers and maybe a larger air flow cat.
Personally if I was you after sinking better then 3K into your car I wouldnt trade it off for a z28 or a V8 as your 3800 will last longer.

Nope your right, GM quit there warranty program on the cars with new motors and now only offer a rebuild with a 3 year/100K warranty. We bought this from a company that only does GM and starts with everything new and gives a 3 year unlimited mile warranty (not that it matters as I work from home so I do not put many miles on it). Honestly I never planned on sinking $12K into this car but when I saw the condition of the bushings and other components I just dropped the cash so I had a pretty much worry free car. Right now I think that I may have 3500 miles on it.

. They change to a nice gold color after you run them a bit. They are not the greatest Stainless as mine have some rust spotting on the underside but mine is a daily commuter that was doing 60-110 miles a day . Other then the spot rust they have been flawless for 2 years 40,000 miles
