Default horrible sound when i start the car (torque converter?)

Ok, got the car where it will at least turn on. Now, when I start it there is this terrrrrrribleeeee clanking sound, it sounds like it's coming from the bottom and rear of the motor. I had someone a while back suggest the torque converter bolts may have worked loose. Is this feasible? It definitely does not sound like it comes from the motor, and if I throttle the car just a little it smooths out, but at idle sounds like hell. I'm sorry I'm asking some pretty newb questions as of late, but I'm really not a motor guy (yet). Much to learn I have.

could be the transmission inspection cover is in wrong and rubbing the flexplate or starter is lose and hitting flexplate or starter needs adjusted to clear flexplate or starter is not disengaging all the way and the teath are hitting. let me see if i can find anything on adjusting starter at least.

Pull the inspection cover off and check if anything is loose.

If you were having trouble starting the car and now are having trouble with something that sounds like a non disengaging starter arm, I would agree with Craby.

If it JUST started to happen, I would think it is probably the whole starter and not just a Shim job.
