thats not a stock rearend, not a 9 in so must be a dana or a 10 in, not surprising.

 

my aunt has a file cabinet full of stuff on the car im going to pick it up in the next few days it should help identify more about the car.

 

Rear axle shown is a GM 12-bolt with a bearing girdle.
The girdle keeps tension on the bearing caps preventing the ring gear from being pushed away from the pinion/hogshead during application of power.

It is good to read you would like to educate yourself on the workings.

if he switched from auto to manual they may have run into computer problems,

 

It runs strong now no problems that I ca n tell anyway

 

With the money and electronics we have seen so far I am pretty sure he had the PCM updated.
