Default Help with weird AC belt size!!!

I have a 1998 Camaro Z28 with the LS1 engine.
My AC stopped working and found my AC belt to be shredded.

I threw it out and bought a new one, but the new one is at least a few inches too long and now I don't have the old one to reference.

I tried a couple different brands but all are 41", and that will not fit. It needs to be around 35-37" it seems.

The stock AC replacement belt is 4PK1040, which is a 41" belt.

I had a look at my main serpentine belt to see if it was different then stock. The stock serpentine belt should be K060790 which is 79". The current serpentine belt on the car is a Gates micro-v K060760 which is a 75.8" belt.

Can anyone explain why my belts are shorter than stock?
Can anyone give me an idea on how to find the correct fitting belt?

Thanks in advance!

370K4 would be a 4 rib, 37.0" belt.

Only thing I can think of why your belts are shorter is someone stuck a smaller crank pulley on the car. It's the only pulley that would effect both the main belt and the A/C belt.

I never thought about the crank pulley being changed, that must be it!
Thanks a bunch for finding the 37" belt for me, I'll see about picking it up after work.
Just curious, how were you able to find the 4 rib in a 37"?
I'd like to know in case it need it a bit longer or shorter.
Thanks again!

I just reverse deciphered of what you needed. You asked for a 37 inch belt with 4 ribs. There's two ways an auto parts store may list them, either 370K4 (cheaper version) or 5040370 (good version). All depends on who you get auto parts from. If you need a 35" belt, just substitute the 37 for 35, if they make one that length. It's not always this easy...but for yours it is. I'm sure that probably didn't answer how I came to that number, it's one of those, I read how to do it in a Dayco belt book once on decoding the numbers and it stuck in my head.

If the parts store doesn't list the belts either of those ways, write down the part number they have listed for the belt for you car and I'll try to rewrite my number to their format since some things just can't all be the same.

I can't say for certain that someone changed the crank pulley, but that would be my best most educated guess. That or you're some how putting them on wrong...which would be hard since the a/c only goes around 3 pulleys.

I know this is old now, but just wanted to say thanks! It was a 37" belt as the previous owner used a smaller crankshaft pulley.

you can also measure with a tape all the way around ,take those measuements to Auto zone an get a belt, its bit harder but what I had to do with my engine swap, now I can just bring them the belt as a reference

Good call, never thought of that. Also happy someone already decided to have already done the work for me. I'm sure it's worth a few ponies.
