When craby said that I didn't question his point. Shifting it manually from 3-4 while driving would be putting it into the same 4th gear as if you had it in 4th to begin with. However, if it does go into 4th while trying a 3-4 shift, look at your linkage adjustment as the problem, since fiddling with the shifter/linkage is what would have made it work. I take it you haven't checked that yet?

i checked the linkage and it seems fine. i drove around in 2nd and it stayed in 2nd. i shifted to d and it went to 3rd then od to 4th so it seems like everything is lining up correctly. i didn't try d to od at wot yet. i will try that tomorrow and let you guys know if it shifts or not.

i think your issue has to do with the wire or connector that feeds the engine info to the computer. from the way i understand it if u have a lose connection along the line the trans will not shift to od at wot. some of what i read says that u can run a wire from the computer to the trans and bypass the ignition signals and its suposed to get rid of the problem. sooo a good first move would be to check the connection at the trany. look the wires and connectors over and see if u can find a damaged area.
