It will slip on rare occasion when you really rag on her, but every Camaro does that.
FYI, A transmission that slips needs rebuilt. It is not normal. I used to rebuild transmission for a GM dealership so I am not guessing. A transmission should be able to handle all the torgue of the motor its mated to in any gear. Kelly Blue book list the trade in value of your car is at $4150 in good condition. So either your car is not in good condition or the dealer knows the transmission is shot. 3K is just about what your car would bring at auction under a red light (meaning no warranty)

Once a trans starts to slip you have to baby it or it will fail very quickly. Its simple math. Once a transmission slips it convert power to heat (sliping clutchs act like brakes). All transmission get hot and have cooling system but not enough of a cooling system to cool off a 100 hp or more worth of heat. Every time the clutchs slip that area of the trans overheats. Heat causes greater wear on already worn out parts. Its a cycle that ramps up very quickly.

I am glad you where joking about selling it to the kid.

good advice so far. Frankly, if you can get $3k from a dealer and also get a low price on the car you buy, then do it and never look back. if the dealer "gives" you $5k you'll pay $2k more for your new car from them. I'm like everyone else so far, I'd say right in front of you

rebuilt tranny
replace window motors
paint is faded
I'd probably find some other issues as well and you should always assume the repairs will be done by a shop and not the potential buyer themselves

I'd toss out an approx # of $4,000 to get it somewhat decent and subtract that from book value and that would be my offer. I would hope you do the same when you are shopping so my offer would barely be $3k, maybe less if i saw more issues. I'd want to see how badly you NEEDED to sell.

Also, any item is only worth what a BUYER is willing to pay.

my 2 cents....take the $3k from the dealer or part it out which is a royal pain in the butt.

The paint isn't faded. I know someone thought I had mentioned that. You can see the seat damage and stuff, but again I really don't see anything serious.

In regards to the transmission. I understand what everyone is saying and don't dispute that something may be going wrong with the tranny, but it is not in need of a rebuild now and shows no signs of problems during normal driving. It will hesitate to upshift at very high RPMs only, if you hammer her at 70, downshift and spike the RPMs, you have to let off a hair to upshift.

I appreciate the help and suggestions...not trying to argue, but you know how it is...my crap smells good, it's everyone else that smells like crap.

As long as you only post the first 3 pics in you're ad then you're good to go and you can get anyone to come look at it lol. Oh and just leave out the laundry list of problems.

Nice write-up, thanks. I have had my 01 SS's trans replaced last fall due to slipping...

Sold for $5500 yesterday. Put it on Craigslist yesterday morning, sold 7pm.

Kelly Blue Book was $5955 in "Fair" condition, which is the lowest, with mileage and additional options.

I'll get back on here when we buy our classic rebuilder in the next 2-3 years.

Thanks again!
