To sell or not to sell - 68 RS SS 396 M-21 12 Bolt
I currenty own a 1968 RS/SS 396 325HP with strato bench. The engine, M-21 and 12 bolt are origianal so all matching #'s. It is in need of a complete restore (sheetmetal, drive train, interior, you name it). I want to restore it in the worst way, but know that it will cost tens of thousands to do it the way I would like. Looking for some advise. First, what is the car worth if I sold it in an as is condition? Second, what is a realistic figure to restore the car? Fully restored I am told it willbe worth $75K plus, but when I look on-line there is no shortage of these car fully restored at that price. So, it may be worth that much, but can I really get that much will the number of car like it on the market.
Thanks in advance!!

It depends- can you afford to hold onto it? Right now is not the best market for selling, after all. If it has to go it has to go, but if you can hang onto it until the recession slacks off, you could probably get a lot more for it.

Doing a complete restore in hopes of a big payday aint going to happen right now. To get to what we call a "close to a 100 car" (100 being what the car was as it pulled off the production line) will cost you about what they are selling for. A year ago you could have turned a 20K profit. Its always a good time to restore because you love it. Many shops are hungry.
I really do take my hat off to the guys that restored these cars 20 years ago. Current resto guys point fingers because a some unseeable repairs where not perfect. How perfect a repair would any of us do if we knew the car would be worth 1/2 what we where investing. Back then guys would put 15-20K in a restoration and have a car worth 7-8K. They did not care they loved the cars.
