Question

Would an inexpensive, run-of-the-mill fuel pressure gauge work fine?

once it hooks up to the schrader valve and is accurate you should be fine.

i plugged the gauge into the intake manifold by the throttle body and it read 20 hg at idle and when revved it went down to 15hg, i also plugged it to the valve cover however that read 0, do those number sounds right?

Yea that sounds about right. You should not have any noticable vacuum in the crank case (valve cover) and about 20hg is about normal for the LS1.

and they all lived happily ever after.. not really.

Im still getting around 12 mpg city, i had taken out the injectors to get cleaned and flow tested, two were in need for a little help. aside from that im still getting 12 mpgs or about 160 miles a tank. However, i was just crusin and drove about 60 miles, the gauge is just under the half tank mark with a total of 120 miles so far. i did do a stretch of highway so lets see what number i have at the end of the tank

the secret to a great story is to keep them wanting more though i wish this one would end.
