88 2.8 fuel pressure question

RE: 88 2.8 fuel pressure question
Is the car carbed or injected? If it uses MPFI, the test fitting is on the fuel rail. Key on & engine stopped pressure should be between 34-47 PSI. With the engine idling the pressure should drop 3-10 PSI. If it is carbed, you will nedd a gauge with a T fitting and insert it between the fuel line & carb, pressure should be 5-8 PSI.

Thanks z28pete, it is MPFI. I did find the test port hidden behind the upper plenum. A friend gave me this car which hasn't run for 3 yrs. I found the intank fuel pump stuffed with crud from the tank. I'm hoping I can clean the tank out, replace the pump and strainer. Replace the fuel filter and pray nothing went past that into the injectors. Sometimes FREE isn't always best.

When yyou replace the fuel pump dubble check your fillter and dont let any scare you you only have to remove the swing arm suspension then all heat shields drop tank u shoould be fine but if you dont get it runing there are somtimes fuses and a relay in the engine compartment I can give you more details if you want them.

RE: 88 2.8 fuel pressure question
Thanks lukiez, I actually had to remove rear shocks and sway bar to get the rear end to drop down far enough. My worst case scenario came true. I pulled the injectors and found 4 out of 6 plugged at the filter. If you get a chance I do need the location and description of the fuel pump relay for the 88 Camaro. My Haynes manual doesn't show the location. Thanks
