Default Front anti lock sensor ?

Does anyone know of any resistance readings one could get with a digital volt meter on the anti lock brake sensors to help determine if one is bad? My antil lock brake light stays on continuously and I just changed engine, disconnected the front brake lines. Accoring to manual, cannot bleed brakes until the light goes off. Trying to save a few dollars on towing.

Thanks,
osduck5

resistance should be very low as it is a coil. If its open circuit then its obviously dead. If you meter on millivolts and spin the wheel you should see a signal. Try both sides and check if they are similar. I think the flex wires to the hub are prone to breaking internally.

Thanks, I measured the sensor at the front wheels then at the end of the short cable that plugs into main harness. Found bad connection at the wheel sensor. Cleaned and antil lock system light has gone off.

Sorry I am having the same problem and was wondering where exactly you cleaned and what you cleaned it with. Was your ABS light on from when you start the car or only after you started to drive. Thanks.

Just as an aside. When the ABS light is on, it indicates that only the ABS is malfunctioning; however, the brakes are still functional and able to stop the car. If the RED brake light is on, you need to be concerned as it it indicates the braking system is compromised. It could be a simple problem such as a bad hand brake switch, or something serious suc as bad master cylinder, or bad brake line. If both the ABS and the Brake lites are lit, you should be vary careful as the brakes may do some strange things.

I had this problem last year. ABS & ESR lights would come on within about 50yds of moving off. Mine was fixed by reseating the connectors onto the front hubs. Just replug them a few times and this wipes clean any oxidation on the connectors. There is another connector at the end of the flex wires which could cause a problem. Or the flex wires themselves may go intermittent. A spray of wd40 will help prevent any future corrosion, just keep it off your disc and pads..

You will see a wiring harness that attaches to the back of the hub in near the center. Follow that wiring harness back along the frame and you will find another connection where it plugs into the main wiring harness. I used a can of electrical connector cleaner that I bought at auto parts store.
