Flowmasters I might have made a mistake.

Even that depends on which system you get. I run a Flowmaster system on my 3.8 and it sounds good. I know of someone else with a different Flowmaster exhaust on their 3.8, and it's raspy.

There are a couple of 3.8s around me that have the FM on their cars and I dont like any of them. One guy has a true SLP RS with the Z28 stock muff and that sounds pretty ok to me. I may go that route when my stock muff dies.

I ended up ordering the system (can't remember the number) with the resonator box to stifle some of the rasp. When this system goes out years from now, I'll probably try something different just to keep changing things up. Maybe a Magnaflow system if I feel like justifying the price. I also keep debating about building a system using the CME tips.

The sound in videos aren't that far off from what they really sound like in person. That's why you watch and listen to a multitude of them with different set ups so you can get an idea of what it will sound like on your car. It's a good reference, but shouldn't be the deal breaker. A lot of the websites have audio clips too of what their systems sound like. I think Magnaflow's does at least. Everyone's set up is going to be different and sound slightly different, but once again, it's all for reference. I personally hate Flowmasters, no matter what they're on. They sound like garbage on a v6 and only sound decent at low rpms on a v8. My fiance installed a FM catback on his 2500 HD Silverado truck and I'm not a fan of it. But it's also not my truck. Just my two cents.

I support Magnaflow personally. It's more about sound than cost for me. Just remember, with most things (not all, but most) you get what you pay for.

I didn't choose my exhaust, I bought the car with Flowmaster catback already installed.. it sounds great to me. It's not raspy at all.
And with the videos a lot of it does come down to the kind of equipment it's recorded on because I took a video of my car once and the sound on the video sounded NOTHING like my exhaust sounds in person.

Jk, it was on my car when I bought it...would have probably gone with super 44s if it hadn't.
