figured out the problem... still need help
ok so idk if anyone remembers me posting a thread about this "clunking" noise that i was hearing from under my car. it is a 95 z28 6-speed, and while i would either slowly let the clutch out in reverse, or if i would be at about 3k rpm's and let off the gas, it would make a terrible popping noise. i thought it was either the tranny mount or a u-joint. i went to go swap the tranny mount, and figured out that it wasnt broken. i went to go get all new tires all the way around it, and figured i would see if they could figure out what was going on. turns out, everytime the motor would torque, the exhaust pipe would bang against the floorboard. so to fix it, i would have to disassemble the exhaust, but f that, its a welded together borla catback, so thats not an option. im trying to figure out a way to make it not make this noise... sorry if its kind of a broad discription. any ideas??

A picture would help. But you might be able to wedge a block of wood between the exhaust pipe and body where it's hitting. Then forward of that, jack up on the exhaust with a floor jack. Use another block of wood between the jack and pipe so you don't dent it. A little tweak is all you need. I've had to "fine tune" exhaust systems more than once to get clearances just right.

HAHA wow dude! I am having the EXACT same problem right now. My Cat was clogged up so I had a buddy take it apart and clean it for me. I get the car back and it clunks real bad. Especially in Reverse like you said, and when you decelerate. I thought I might have a bad tranny mount because it actually jerks the Shift **** up a little....so I bought a new tranny mount...took the old one out and realized it wasn't broken, but I had gone that far already so I just replaced it.
I'm hitting in the exact same spot, but I cant tell if it is hitting down on the cross-band that goes the width of the car or if it is actually hitting up against the bottom of the car. Not sure why its torquing the tranny either.
Did you fix yours yet??
