Default exhaust question

96 lt1 camaro, it has bbk shortie headers, hi flows, and glasspacks (yes i do have glasspacks cus im a cheap bastard). it is true dual. well lately i have been noticing when i drive, it is loud but it also has like a crappy hollow sound to it and i think its the glasspacks. i was thinking about running just the headers and hi flows and choppin off the glasspacks. just want some opinions and/or ideas

loud is nice for grabbing attention but after a while, open exhaust grates on you. It's fine at the track or for mucking around but not constant driving.

another thing you are going to have to worry about if you run open exhaust or glasspacks for that matter is burning the exhaust valves. A tuned muffler like the Flowmaster 40 series provides a good sound but leaves enough back pressure to cool the exhaust valve enough to keep it from getting burnt. The cooling of the exhaust valve also assists in the scavenging effect which helps the new exhaust gasses escape from the cylinder. Be careful running open exhaust, you need to have your engine built to do it, and the factory does not give you the proper parts to make that happen.

No the SLP exhaust will give the proper backpressure, it actually maximises the scavenging abilities of the stock manifolds and gives a good sound. The muffler in the loudmouth works very similar to the Flowmaster, in that it muffles the sound by using the sound pressure against itself. almost no restriction, just enough to keep the engine safe.
