Default Exhaust leak SES

Lately i've had some issues with my SES light and I was wondering if an exhaust leak could trigger the light to come one. The leak is on the passenger side around the Cat does this sound like a the reason why it would come on. Thanks.

i had the same thing happen to me, but my leak was off the manifold. after that fixed, light still on, but less often. i got the codes read and i need a new EGR valve. just haven't put it in yet. but i have severe hesitation when accelerating, due to the EGR valve. I really gotta get that fixed

The leak isn't horrible but it is noticable.

If the car is a 96+ and the leak is big enough it could be throwing off the aft-cat O2 sensors, in which case it would throw an SES light, although I'd think it'd have to be a pretty big leak in order to do that.
