Default Fix Exhaust Leak?!?!?! Should I????

305 TBI

I noticed the other day when I was changing my tranny mount that I have cracks in my exhaust. Its right behind the cat, I also noticed I have no muffler ! It doesnt make a bad smell in the car or anything, I was just worring about performance. Should it take away gas milage or HP?

I'm on a student budget, so is there any cheap patch kit for this? I no thats not the right thing to do, Im ashamed for even asking that . But Im on a strict budget. Let me know if I shouldnt even worry about it. Thanks for help -Steve

Depends where the crack is. If the crack is on the pipe you can fix it with a patch kit from an auto parts store. It may or may not pass inspection, and won't last for long. If the crack is right next to cat's flange, then the patch kit won't work. The other option is to find a good exhaust shop, like Minike, that is capable of making up exhaust systems, and they may be able to weld the crack up. The crack is not going to affect performance, but the exhaust fumes directly under the car may affect you.

if you can weld you could probly just fill it or cut it out and replace it

Unless you plan on a short life span, I would suggest you repair/replace the leaking exhaust. You gain nothing by leaving as is.
