If you had put an aftermarket on your RS then that is probably why it rumbled. And back when the RS was made the noise ordinance and pollution emissioons weren't nearly as strict. When the Z28 was made it had to pass a certain emission requirement to even make it to show room floors. The stock exhaust is restrictive and it should be changed if you go to modifying your car. Also cars in production their stock exhaust can't go above a certain decible at WOT from I think 100 feet away. So I'm sure that is why it doesn't sound all that impressive. Think about it when the fox body 5.slows came out they had 4 cats on them to make them pass. Same goes with the 03-04 terminators. In their case they gain easily 30 whp just by cutting the cats off. You will gain hp to by changing your exhaust just probably not as much.

That is really all subjective as to which sounds best if you want LOUD and I mean LOUD get the SLP loudmouth. Also if you have to pass emissions inspections go with shorty of mid-length headers or keep the stock manifolds. If you don't have to worry about that then get some longtube headers. To not break the bank and to get good sound but not real loud I reccomend Magaflow muffler. Cheap free flowing and good sound. But search around for sound clips to hear what everyone has and choose what sounds best to you. P.S. I have longtube headers, no cats, true dual exhaust h-pipe and 2 inline magnaflow mufflers. I have been told that I have the best sounding car in my town that is "unofficial" but i take it with pride.

Doesn't matter -- get whatever headers & cat back you want and even cat-delete if you get a tune to delete those relevant codes for the emissions considerations... ;-)

TWO mufflers?! Sheesh, one is enough! ;-)

Mufflers? Who needs mufflers?

Get a different cat-back system on there and you won't be disappointed in the sound.
