Default exhaust

I am thinking about putting longtube headers, an x pipe and then just running straight pipe after that on my 01 ss. I would like to leave the cats on though. I would like it to be louder than just my flowmaster now but not obnoxious. How would this set up sound and what manufacturer should I go with. I am trying to be in the 2k to 3k price range incl. paying a shop to install.

Have you ever heard a car with open exhaust? If you don't have anything to muffle the sound it's going to get ridiculous. In essence I have open exhaust, but I have resonator tips on it to help quiet it down a bit. I love the sound of my car, but it's nowhere near the volume of open exhaust. If you still want tips out the back you're going to have to go with Y pipe instead of an X pipe, a dual exhaust with a cross-over pipe on a 4th gen is pretty hard to fit, and you're looking at an expensive custom job. If you don't want the looks of the tips you can dump the exhaust before the rear axle and fit a true dual system, but that's really the only reasonable way to get it done. As far as brands, I'd suggest at least Hooker coated headers, or better yet a good set of "custom" headers such as Kooks or Dynatech. I'm not quite sure what the labour is going to be on your installs, but count on it being pretty pricey.

95, you have any sound clips? Im tired of the ugly box tips and ive got all kinds of problems with my exhuast (its loud, but its got what i believe to be a manifold leak and a leak where my cat used to be due tocrappy"welding"and im thinking about just gettin a new header back system, but i want it to be bad *** andable topass emissions next year.

I'll try to get some sound clips of my car up, but I don't have anything that records video(my digital camera is an SLR, so it doesn't do video). I'll try to get a video camera next week and get some footage of my car, but no promises.

If you are wanting to do headers back. You can search around on the internet to find some headers you like. From my personal experience on my car I have pacesetter lontubes, with no catalytic converters, true duals all the way back with an H-pipe. I have 2 inline magnaflow mufflers and trust me the car is realtively quiet at idle and low rpm's, but at 2200 rpms an up it screams and is deep and roaring loud. The headers cost me 400 and 300 to install. The headers back cost me another 300. If you want to hear it check this clip out it is not great quality but you can hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo90Rb2579w
