Engine Tick?
Saturday night I was heading up to a carnival in a nearby city. ran into a early/mid nineties GT on the highway and raced him. beat him and continued into town. once i got there, i heard a slight ticking from the engine. turned around and drove home. as long as i stayed under 2000 rpm it was fine. as i went over 2K, it would get progressively louder. it sounds kinda like a blocked lifter, but i am not sure. i am going to swap the oil and i want to flush the engine. is it worth getting a shop to do the flush? or can i do it myself?

Flush? You dont real flush a motor. Just change the oil. If it is a lifter you could try a seafoam treatment. Tapping over 2K is not a good sign you may have streched a rod. Lifter will normally tap all the time and sometimes go away at higher RPMS.
i have hit 6K before while winding it out, but this time when i was running the 'stang, i shifted every time just over 5K.
i will check into the seafoam thing in the morning. i want to sell the car, but this would really kill me if i had to do engine work first.

Maybe a video of the noise? Also listen under the hood then under the car. If it is "louder" or "clearer" under the car then your screwed.
