Default I want to buy this z24, but the engine has a tick/click

Hey guys, I currently drive an LT1 Camaro. However it's a little impracticable as a daily driver for my commute. I'd like to get something a little more fuel efficient (but still fun) as a daily driver.

I found a 2000 Z24 for sale in my area with 124k, new clutch, 5 speed, sun roof, k&n filter, cd player, black. It's pretty much everything I'd want. The asking price is $1800 but the guy said he'd take $1500 cash. The only problem he mentioned was that the car makes a "ticking" noise. I have been told that knocking is very severe, but a ticking could be an adjustment. I know that my old Honda would tick if it needed a valve lash adjustment. Though I don't know much about Chevy 4 cylinders. I'd hate to pick up a car that may seize up or die on me soon after owning it. I'd love to get some input on if I should go for the deal or not.

The owner was kind enough to send me a video of the engine running from his cell phone. I apologize for the quality.

Bet the timing chain's a little loose (can't quite tell in the clip). This engine and the older Quad4's had an issue with the tensioner. It won't break, but it does make a racket.

OTOH - if you get a serious mod bug for this thing, there is a bolt-on GM Performance Parts supercharger for it - though it may be hard to find. (GM Part # 12498660 - and one shows up w/ pic on GMPartsDirect.com)

I know it's hard to describe it in words, but how can I differentiate a rod knock from a timing chain issue? I know it's impossible from that low quality video, but in person is there a way to tell without taking the guys car apart lol?
