so the other day i had the cruse set at 60 going down the road and the engine just shut off. i tried starting it back up and all it does is crank. one of my friends told me that it's probably the distributor, any ideas before i start tearing into it?

 

could be a number of things. what year is it? im assuming its a lt1? you need to find out if its a spark or fuel problem. check for spark at the plugs, take a wire off and stick a screwdriver in the end and hold it close to the exhast manifold. if you see a spark its most likely a fuel problem.
