Default exhaust and cams

Ok so I got a couple of questions. First, I am going to put a new cam in my 96 z28 and Im curious what is the best one. I was looking at a comp cams cam. My second question is it more beneficial to us a test pipe or a high flow catalytic converter.

there is no "best" with these cars. there are tons of different grinds and options. the issue is - what do you want? decide that first, then just make sure you build your car around the cam so you dont hate driving it. dont throw a huge sloppy cam in there on a stock stall, or dont over cam and have a car that falls flat on its face.

are you going to be doing new heads or head work? make sure you replace springs regardless. if you want a stock-head streetable cam there are several at comp cams that I know the lt1 guys around here would recommend. I have known guys go with the lt4 setup as well that were pretty happy with it, but lt4 is a dirty word around here

Also you will need to have your computer tuned to your new cam and whatever else you have done to your engine. If you dont you will not be happy about how the car runs or drives. also before you tune make sure you get everything done that you are going to do, or you will be paying for another run on the dyno.

LT1s do pretty well with pcmforless tunes iirc. hell, I may call for one if they do much for LS1's. I havent been able to spray since putting the cam in.... ands I misses in

spec got it right. you need to decide your goals before we can start recommending a cam. also, you need to have all the supporting mods done first to get full benefit of your cam such as cold air intake, headers, and catback.

spec, the LT4 hotcam was a solid choice in its day. the problem is, you can get a lot more out of your car from different cams and for less money than the kit

^ya, i knew there are other options. I was just throwing it out there in the event that the guy wants to go with a pre-configured set. the lt4 set is definitly not the best bang for your buck, but you will see solid gains and won't run the risk of getting incompatible components.

That said, I wouldnt get it if I were building an lt1 lol

I do plan on doing the heads eventually but for right now I would like to get something that will work with the stock head and components.

no matter what, you're going to have to change the springs. the stock springs are only good enough to handle the stock cam. if you don't change springs, you're asking for even more headaches in the future
