Default Electrical issue from Pennsylvania

I am new to the board and have a question. Just bought a 1999 Camaro for my son who turned 16. When we start the car the fuel gauge spikes to full and won't read actual gallons. On occasion it will read correct around the time the tank is on empty. Anyone have this problem in the past? We are first time Chevy or GM owners so I hope this car is dependable. Thanks.

Sounds like the fuel level sender float is sticking or the wiring has issues. How many miles on the car? If the fuel pump has been replaced the job may have done ham-fisted or sloppily causing the problem.

On my 94 you can access the fuel pump/fuel level sender inline connector at the underbody ahead of the rear axle on the driver's side (see bad pic).

Let us know if you need more info.
