Heat soak and Air-gap were beneficial when everything was running a carb, but with an EFI car and a cold air intake the air is moving through the intake fast enough that it's not going to have much of a chance to get heated up.

For those of you who have removed an LT1 intake...how can you get it to flow more? It's an open hole with intake runners that are about 1.5" long.

The only benefit you can get out of a new intake are larger cross section intake runners and the front of the intake ported for a 58mm TB, both of which can be easily ported on the stock LT1 intake.

The Edelbrock intake can take the 58mm TB as it sits, that's why it can flow more. You can just as easily port out your stock intake to accommodate the 58mm TB.

Since you already own the intake manifold you may as well keep it, it will eliminate you from needing to port out the stock one when you get up to the levels of power where you need a 58mm TB

Yes. Good deal. Slvr, I agree that you can basically port the stock one for maximal benefits. The only real advantage that the air gap design offers are longer runners which will typically broaden the low end torque curve.

If you have more bucks, extrude honing the stocker to increase plenum volume would be beneficial, but it really depends on the setup. You would need a more radical NA or forced induction setup to see any real benefits.
