Default Driver module

Merry Christmas! Question on my 95 Z28. Has just flipped over 100k, I've had it for a little more than a year. A couple days ago the Service Engine Soon light came on and when it did I could hear the cooling fans kick in. I've noticed that they will sometimes shut off when the car is not moving and the light will go off. Start moving and the light comes on and the fans are on.
I took it to the local auto parts store and was told it gave a code to indicate the Driver Module was bad. My questions is that part of the computer and if so is that super difficult to remove and replace?
I didn't get the code it gave him, totally wasn't thinking. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

A 95 has no codes to indicate a bad driver module. It sounds like the clerk was reading a list of codes for a 93. You will need the actual code number. Very few parts stores will have a scanner capable of reading a 94 or 95 F-car. Even for a 93, any codes indicating a driver module failure usually really mean that the external device attached to it has failed (relay, lamp, solenoid, motor, etc). Third, there are multiple driver modules in the pcm.

To answer your question, the driver modules are not easily replaced. First, you cannot buy one or even get a normal part number. The part would have to come from another PCM. Second, the part is soldered into the circuit board so the old one would need to be un-soldered and the new one soldered in and fastened to the heat sink.

So would you say that based on how the light comes on and the fan kick in that this could very well be a driver module? And if that's the case it sounds like I would need to get the PCM to fix the problem?

That's not what I said. I said the problem is likely with the part connected to the pcm driver module. To proceed you will need to get the actual code from a real working scanner. Anything else is just guessing. You can go back and get the number from the guy you talked to before, then post back here with the number(s). Or get a scanner like the CP9185 that can do the job. They are selling for under $70 now on Amazon.

keep an eye on your water light ,check for small leaks around the manifold in back on the engine ,mine at 99k did something simular that turned out to be the gaskets from just being old an that i pounded on it a bit , fans would come on when the car was cold an very odd times the leak was so small it did not leak into the oil an was fixable ,if that is all good i would give the car a full tune up wire plugs opti spark ,but the check engine light would be generaly any number of things,as small as an Air sencor ,on up

I don't know any parts store that has the proper tools to read a '95 as it's an oddball year...OBD2 connector but OBD1 computer..or maybe the other way around, I can't remember.

Fans automatically kick on any time the SES light is active. Does the car run rough? Hard to start?

Adapt a 12 pin OBD-I scanner to your 1995 16 pin DLC

The Actron CP9185 OBD1/OBD2 scanner already has a 16 pin cable/connector. No adapting is needed for a 95. The price is now $73, but it changes almost daily.

the car runs and starts up fine. Really nothing seems wrong and the temp hasn't gotten above about 185 or so, right on or just below the first line on the temp gauge. The light and fans don't kick in until I've driven about a mile.. I'll see what I can do to get this code and be back to report what I find. I can see it has an oil leak, not a terrible one but will need to be addressed, and yea a full tune up wouldn't hurt either. Thanks!
