Question Downstream O2 Used Upstream?

On an '02 Camaro 3.8L, can I use a downstream O2 sensor in the upstream position? Is there any real differences between them and if so, what are the negatives?

I'm pretty sure that it matters, at least on newer cars the one after the cat is a wideband o2 sensor and the one before the cat is a narrowband. I believe that on the f body's they used wideband and narrowband.

If you do use a narrowband o2 sensor downstream then your I/M readiness for your o2 sensors and your cats wont set, your car also may not run right and you'll have a CEL.
