Default Dead camaro wants to live

So yesterday my car started making this knocking noise In the engine. And smoke.started coming out from.the.exaust. They told me.that it was the rods.and main bearings. so I was thinking if my engine is gonna be open might as well install a new cam also. What cam and what parts would I have to add I have a spending limit.of around 1500, is it possible.to.fix the engine.and install a new cam?

which engine do you have?

if you only have $1500 and need a shop to do the work you are in the market for a used engine going back into the car and don't even think about any performance upgrade, you don't have the $$$. You're still going to be north of $1500 if you can't do the work yourself

Unless you have a machine shop doing the work for free no way can you fix a LT1 with a spun main and a spun rod bearing for $1500. Anyone who says they can is cluless or up to something. You are talking $1200-2000 just in machine work to do it right. Cam is going to set you back about $1000 by the time you replace the lifters and valve springs. When a bearing spins it tends to shoot metal all thru the engine doing all kinds of other damage. If you try to do a “patch job” on the motor it will not last at all. It is almost always cheaper to buy a used engine and rebuild that then it is to try and fix a motor with major internal damage.
