coolant crossover pipe

Default coolant crossover pipe

the coolant crossover pipe on the back of the heads do i need that or can i get rid of it and plug the holes?

Yes you need the crossover pipe. That's part of the LT1's reverse flow cooling system where the heads get cooled before the block does (opposite of older gen 1 engines like in my 69). That cooling setup keeps head temps down which allows the engine to be able to run the higher compression ratio and timing advance that it has, without detonation.

crossover pipe is to help bleed the air out. u can do without but its almost impossible to get all the air out without it.

It's still in the best interest of the engine's cooling design to keep the crossover, GM put it there for a reason. Is it in your way or something, or did it just look at you funny?

Why are so many people eager to get rid of parts that the factory put in? Most parts have a very good reason for being there. lol
