Default Clutch Question - 2000 SS

Clutch engagement from the floorboard is generally ________(how many) inches?
Mine is about 1 -1.5 inches off the floorboard. I think too short.

The OE pushrod from the pedal to the master cylinder has about 1/4 inch of slack before hitting the piston. Is there an adjustement to take up some overly free pedal, or is this slack by design?

Car has 44K miles and I would believe everything is original.

Thanks for your advice.
