A strut is a "support" part for the upper half of the suspension. Your cars are self supporting (upper and lower arms), with essentially a coil-over shock holding the front up. The term is misused, I spose because at quick glance it "resembles" a strut. No reason for either of you guys to get your nose out of joint about it, really. I can think of a number of auto terms that are used incorrectly, for instance flywheel instead of flexplate. Another one is using "freeze plug" instead of casting plug. Even though you can find them by name, the name and implication is wrong. Carry on.....nicely!
I agree and i let a stupid childish comment about the blinker fluid comment get to me and got drag into it and i should have been a bigger man about it and walked away from it.

i agree with you to that it kind of like the whole tomato argument LOL. camaro69 the reason i call it strut is because i have always been told to how to distinguish the two . a shock ceases to be a shock when it becomes a structural part of the suspension. IE you can take a shock out of with out removing any other component of the car and the car will still support it self.

as for removing them i struggled with mine and ended up taking them to the shop. The mount on the top of both of mine had to be replaced because the were damaged. pretty much the nut on top was just rotted to hell and the shaft just spun. In the end im glad i let a shop do it becuase the took them apart in what seemed like an unsafe manner and getting hit in the head with a spring isn't a good way to end the day.
