changing just the tranny mount- risks cautions?

I did. Took it out and swapped it for a Z28 solid mount. It, too, was lower profile than my stock mount and I had to use some washers to get it up the right height in order to stop the vibrations.

Is auto's car a v6 or v8? He didn't say. I put a poly tranny mount on my old 96 Z28 with never an issue. It gave it a slight vibration that I could detect, but nothing bothersome. If you end up with terrible vibes after putting on a poly trans mount, then you have other drive line issues that needs fixing.

i have same, v8 auto. The poly and stock were the same height, no need for washers. I always check what i'm putting in is the same.
Yeah craby, it didnit 'cause' the tail to break itself. It was a combination that when i've swaped out to a new axle i've got much more vibration than I had before, something is out of alignment but I dunno what. When I put the poly mount in it mean't something couldn't flex as it did on stock mount so it just snaped the tail housing as this was the weakest spot. A poly is OK if you have no other problems, in my case it exaggerated this misalignment problem. It still shakes now and i'm back to stock mount !!
