Default car running funny

Ok so for about a week my cars check engine light has been coming on and going off keep checking at the local auto parts store and the code reader finds nothing..... well to day driving to work it was raining hard and it started missing and acting up really bad then the check engine light came on and the car ran fine. When I got off work I started it and it done some what like a carb. when its getting too much gas like overloading and missing again the check engine light came on and runs fine. A guy at work told me he had one that when it would rain his distributor would get wet and his would act up.....

Any thoughts???

Seems like your car starts acting up when it goes into the closed loop mode, and clears up when the check engine lamp lights, which also means it is back in open loop. This is usually an indication of a sensor problem, as the PCM does not look at most sensors when in open loop. The easy way would be to leave a scan tool connected and see what the code is when the light comes up.

It should also store the codes for you to lookup later. I say go back and get it scanned. Also the basic scanner is cheap pick one up they are handy. I paid like $60 for mine and it pays off quick.

Well I found out it was water in the dist.cap causing it to miss fire on some cylinders and the bigger injector that already spray a lot of gas was sitting till the water spun out of the way. Then it would fire and burn off the gas causing the missing.

I understand the part about the distributor cap, but the injector part makes no sense.

i think he means the misfireing cylinder would cause a build up of fuel in it. yep i have seen a 95 with a bad opti not want to show a code. you need to have a scanner that can read a 95 or you can do this and use an obd1 scanner and plugin. check number 24 on the list. 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids

yeah what^^^ he said lol it was misfiring and with the amount of fuel in the cylinder it was causing the car to overload it used almost half a tank in about 50 miles

With it fixed, it'd be a good time to change the plugs. I'd bet they're not looking to pretty anymore.
