Default Brakes/ABS

Ok, I'm the 'FNG'.....here's my problem...1995 Z/28....99,000 miles....ABS.....every now and then when stopping gently at around 10 MPH the pedal will go soft and you loose your braking ability. The ABS light comes on occasionally but the 2 are not simultanious. I've replaced the ABS relay and fuses. If you are 'panic' braking they work well.
If anyone can point me in the right direction an keep me from having to go to the shop and actually PAY somebody I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

That points to an ABS motor or module issue. When you do an emergency stop, dose it go into ABS mode or do you just get a firm pedal w/no modulation? First you need to make sure the master is not the issue. Since you state that an ABS light comes on, you need to check for any codes, they may still be in the comps memory under code history.

No codes. The pedal will get 'hard' under 'panic' brakeing and it is almost impossible to get the ABS to engage with a pulsing pedal but I've never noticed a tire sliding. I might take it to the old Donaldson air base and do some serious testing one evening after work.
This will be the first ABS trouble shooting I've ever done. Any help from some experienced wrenches would be good.
Thanks.
