I have a 93 camaro with v6 motor. I have no pressure to my rear brakes. I unscrewed the front brakeline from the master cylinder and the fluid shot out and the brake pedal went to the floor. I undid the line to the rear brakes and the fluid shot out just a very little bit and the pedal did not go to the floor. Is this a bad master cylinder or is it supposed to be like this on this car?

 

Ive tried doing a search on here but havent come up with anything close.
It would seem to me that the fluid should come out of each unplugged hole at the same rate.

 

There is a proportioning valve involved that regulates fron to back pressure.

I thought the proportion valve was on the side of the abs module?? Ive been trying to get info on master cylinders on how they work and i keep reading that it puts pressure out at same rate and a prop. valve after the master cylinder takes care of equalization. Just a small amount comes out of the one side of this master cylinder, but the other side shooots out. (banging head)

 

I just took a look at a new proportion valve and it is off to the side of the abs module. So im gettin the hunch that the master cylinder is shot. Still can use some help verifying that the master cylinder and equal pressure problem. Thanks

Does your car have a problem stopping? What Pete was trying to say, is the proportioning valve adjusts brake pressure so front gets more, and rear gets less. Front brakes have better stopping power, so that's why they have more pressure.

 

I understood what he was saying about how it works but i didnt know if the master cylinder had it built in to it. I was tryin to focus on the master cylinder because it didnt send correct pressure to one port.I put a new master cylinder on it and now get pressure to the rear. Must have been a leaking valve inside it. Thanks for the replies.
