Default Blocks

I would like to find either an LS1, LQ4, or LQ9 block and build it up. Im not sure if this will turn into an opinion or if there are true facts, hopefully someone can help. Which is best to go with out of those 3? It would be nice to have aluminum for weight however the iron would be stronger. Any help would be great as well as any supportive facts and info. Thanks in advance.

What exactly is your power goal? They're all fine blocks, I would go with whatever is the cheapest (most likely the LQ4 from a truck, plus it has more cubes and is iron).

I would like to be between 525-550. More if possible.

If I remember correctly, the LQ4 and LQ9 engines are nearly identical (the only exceptions are VVT and flat top pistons on the 9) so the 4 would be easier and less expensive. My vote is for the cheap LQ4 block but I think you're going to need more cubes, a very radical cam, and some massive flowing heads to get up that high if you aren't using any power adders (assuming we're talking about rwhp). You really start to max out the vortec motors after stroking to 408ci which is just over 500rwhp+ all motor. I've always envied this H/C Vette: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/perf...408-vette.html

However, if you do just plan on running boost, spray, etc. a plain 5.3 would be enough for the least amount of cash.
