Okay I'm going to try and clear some things up about the Anniversary Camaros, since there is a lot of confusion.

1997:
All Camaros made in 1997 are 30th Anniversary Camaros.
GM also made a Special/Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Package for the Z28 and SS models.

A 30th Anniversary Camaro is not the same as a 30th Anniversary Special Edition.

The 30th Anniversary Special Edition was White with Orange Striping.

2002:
All Camaros made in 2002 are 35th Anniversary Camaros.
GM also made a Special/Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Package only available on the SS model.

A 35th Anniversary Camaro is not the same as a 35th Anniversary Special Edition.

The 35th Anniversary Special Edition was Red with White Striping.

These differences affect the prices of the varying models. A 35th Anniversary Camaro is not worth the same as a 35th Anniversary Special Edition. Although a 2002 Camaro is worth more than a 2001 and a 97 is worth more than a 96. It's because of the year they were made makes them more desirable. Now this difference probably wont amount to thousands of dollars with the base model anniversary editions. They are still worth more than the year before, also are equipped with more features than prior years. For example a 2002 Camaro has all-wheel disc brakes stock. In 2001 all-wheel disc brakes were optional and not a standard feature. Hopefully this helps clear up some confusion and maybe we can get this stickied so we stop getting the Anniversary Questions 3 times a month.

 

It was silver stripes with a checkered flag pattern that fades as it goes to the back of the car.

All Camaros base model and above had 4 wheel disks from 1999 and up. 4 wheel disks were optional on base model for all years prior and standard on all years of z28.

I didnt mean to bust your bubble I know you are writing a thread to give clarity to the recient wave of questions but I felt it was necessary to get the most accurate info on the cars.

Two of my friends have Camaros, one a 99 and the other '01. Neither have disc brakes in the rear. According to a history of Camaros document from GM the only model year to have all-wheel disc brakes is '02. Ill do some more research and get back to you.

 

I pulled this info out of the book called Standard Catalog of Camaro 1967-2002 by John Gunnell ISBN #978-0-87349-495-3

Looking at the book again to make sure I have my info correct I found that I was wrong. According to the book here on page 176, talking about 1998 Camaros the book quotes: "A New four-wheel disk brake system was standard on all Camaros, as was a one-piece all-welded exhaust system."

If your buddys have 98 or newer with rear drums then some one either changed the diff or the only other thing I can think of is it could be a Canadian car.

Hrm didn't think Canadian made a difference. They both live in Canada and thats where their cars were made. I'll have to find that article, I was talking about. Thanks Massey.

I would pay more for a 35th anniversary camaro with the package than a normal one with the same exact miles.

 

^as it should be, the anniv package was a nice setup. I generally see low mileage anniversary SS's being sold for $20k at the minimum whilst non-anniv SS's are in the 12-15k range

 

Cars destin for export have to conform to the laws of the country they are going to. All the Camaros where made in Canada but the mirrors and taillights for European cars were different, Japan cars also had different tails, so the cars would conform to local laws. IT would not suprise me if there was a local law somewhere that required rear drum brakes because they have stronger park brake holding, and stopping power. over that little shoe in the 98+ rear disk brake.
