Default Aluminum Driveshaft

ok so got a 98 trans am auto wit about 167xxx miles. there is a sound it is making when i put into gear and take off like a cringing noise sounds like somethings broken.took it to the dealership i bought it from and they said its normal for an ALUMINUM driveshaft to do that and its the flexing making that noise??? is this true do u guys hear this in your cars?? next problem: my rearend howls..everytime i turn and flip a u-turn it like whines or something. what is that?? again the dealership said oh its jsst the posi since one wheel is spinning more

Dude I would have to say your differential's ring and pinion is probably shot. I may not be right but my car did that when I had to have my differential rebuilt. Also you could have a bad U-joint that is making your driveshaft spin off center or something. I am not sure at all but just an idea.

Your rearend should not be making a noise that loud. If it's only happening when you're turning you need to take it to the dealer (I'm assuming you just bought it) and make them check out the rear end, those aren't normal symptoms.

I think it sounds like your rear end, When you slow down to hear to turn you hear it more

Posi rearends will sometimes make a noise when turning sharp. But in your case because of the noise you here when you take off, I would at least raise the rear of the car and check it out. Push and pull on both wheels to see if there is any side play. Hold one wheel and have somone turn the other wheel. It should feel tight and hard to turn. If it spins easily, your posi is worn out. My guess is with that many miles, the ring and pinion gears are worn. If the gears are not chipped they could be shimmed. If you drain the rear and look at the wear pattern on the ring gear, it should be worn in the middle of the ring. If the wear pattern is to the outside, the rear is to loose and needs shims.
